Kagawong  "where mists rise from the falling water" 
is the Ojibwe name for this North Channel community.

In the coolness of the early morning, mists rising over the tree tops mark the path of the Kagawong River as it cascades over Bridal Veil Falls and winds its way into the North Channel of Georgian Bay on Lake Huron, Ontario, Canada.

To find the historic village of Kagawong, leave Hwy. 540 where the road turns sharply at the Billings Co. Store and follow the nineteenth century street lamps that provide appropriate entry.

The main street of the village, in the business section below the hill, presents a well-preserved picture of  turn-of-the-century architecture.  A lighthouse, hotel, mill and many century-old homes are reminders of Kagawong's early days as a timber and fishing center.

Fishing continues to be an important activity in Kagawong.  Splake, small mouth bass, northern pike, salmon, perch and whitefish make Kagawong a fisherman's paradise.  Kagawong is also famous for its bountiful early spring smelt run.
